All flights to Lukla are scheduled in the early part of the day as the wind picks up speed in the afternoon, and it becomes impossible to fly. This flight is also an unforgettable part of your Everest adventure. As the aircraft takes off from the airport, you will be greeted with endless rows of Himalayan mountains, stretching as far as your eyes can see. The airport at Lukla is a narrow strip of asphalt sitting atop a cliff. Famous as one of the most extreme airports globally, landing at this airport is sure to increase your heart rate and leave you covered in goosebumps. At the airport, you will meet your porters who will carry most of your heavy luggage. Leaving the airport, you walk through the busy local market and make your way down to Phakding. Your first day’s trek is a short one filled with amazing views of the Dudh Koshi River and alpine forests. Dodging mule trains, porters with heavy loads, and trekkers, you reach the metal suspension bridge that spans the Dudh Koshi River. You cross your first suspension bridge to reach Phakding. There will be many more crossings on swaying metal bridges like this in the days to come! Head to a local teahouse and later explore the village or call it a day and take a much-needed rest. Tomorrow is going to be a long day.
Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch and dinner included.
After breakfast, you make an early start and take the path to Namche. It is a rigorous walk filled with steep ascents. But the scenery is breathtaking, and you can’t stop yourself from stopping multiple times to soak in the stunning views. As you reach Monjo, you enter Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a rich storehouse of rare Himalayan flora and fauna. The highlights of today’s trek include: Crossing the highest bridge in Khumbu Region. The Hillary Bridge. Entering Sagarmatha National Park and capturing the first glimpse of Mount Everest. Namche, the stopover point for the day, is one of the landmarks of Everest Trek. A Sherpa settlement, Namche is carved on the side of a steep mountain face. Dotted with traditional stone houses, local teahouses, luxury resorts, inviting cafes and bakeries, and shops selling knick-knacks, Namche is the Khumbu commercial center. With banks, ATM kiosks, money exchange centers, and a lively local market, this Sherpa settlement draws traders from the higher reaches. A comfortable teahouse run by a Sherpa family is your shelter for the night. You can enjoy a hot shower and a hearty dinner before you retire for the night.
Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner included.
This day has been set aside for acclimatization. As you will be walking beyond 4000 meters in the next few days, it’s essential to prepare your body for high altitude and thin air. Your guide will take you on a hike up to the hills above Namche. You visit the settlement of Shyangboche and the stunning Hotel Everest View. A brainchild of a Japanese entrepreneur, this is one of the world’s highest hotels. Enjoy jaw-dropping views of Ama Dablam, Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Thamserku, Khumbila, and Kwangde from the hotel’s sundeck. Later head down to Namche and visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery.
Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner included.
Today’s hike begins at a leisurely pace. Leaving Namche Bazaar, your path winds uphill through fragrant rhododendron woodlands and passes alongside quiet Himalayan villages. Many trekkers regard this route as the most scenic section of the entire Everest Base Camp Trek. You’re really in the mountains now: Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Nuptse are just a few of the stunning peaks that tower over the trail. You’ll continue hiking past the Imja Khola; this river drains the slopes of Everest and is actually a tributary of the Dudh Koshi. Your destination for today lies where the two rivers converge at the spiritual center of the Khumbu: Tengboche. This village is best known as the site of the important Tengboche Monastery. This is the largest gompa you’ll visit during your hike, and it’s a sublime sight to behold: flanked by pines and azaleas and set against the backdrop of Ama Dablam, it’s hard to imagine a more striking setting. Make sure to step inside to check out the monastery’s exquisite murals and statuary. You’ll spend the night at a guesthouse in Tengboche.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Don’t forget to catch the sunrise over Ama Dablam before leaving Tengboche. It is a sight worth sacrificing a few hours more of sleep and the cozy warmth of your bed. Trust us; this will be one of the sights you will cherish for a lifetime. After breakfast, you follow the route to Dingboche, a high-altitude Sherpa village. Cross the Imja Khola and walk past the hamlet of Pangboche. Mani walls, prayer flags, prayer wheels, and chortens dot the trail. You arrive at your destination, Dingboche, after walking past Orsho. Lying at an altitude of 4,410 meters, Dingboche is where many trekkers start feeling the adverse effects of high altitude. Drink plenty of fluids and keep yourself hydrated. Our guide will monitor your blood oxygen levels with an oximeter and let you know if you need to take Diamox. The best thing would be to take it slow, take warm drinks, have a positive mindset, and follow your guide’s advice.
Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner included.
Another day to acclimatize and prepare your body for that challenging hike to Everest Base Camp. Take the route outside the village and head south to a small hill that offers excellent views of the surrounding mountains. The climb leaves you a little breathless, but the incredible views you get to savor from the lookout point are definitely worth the hike. Enjoy panoramic views of Ama Dablam, Kantega, Lhotse, Nuptse, Cholatse, etc.
Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner included.
As you climb higher, the air starts to thin, and you find yourself struggling a bit. Walk at a slow and steady pace. Don’t rush and try to breathe rhythmically while walking. The scenery around the trail starts getting bare and desolate. You are now trekking above the tree line, and you notice the absence of trees and greenery. There are no permanent settlements at this altitude. Lobuche is just a cluster of teahouses that local Sherpas run. But there is no shortage of incredible views as high mountains seem to rise next to the teahouses and surround the whole landscape. Have an early night as tomorrow you will be walking to your destination – Everest Base Camp.
Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner included.
After an early breakfast, you follow the trail to Gorakshep. Like Lobuche, Gorakshep is also sparsely populated and has only a few teahouses standing on the barren terrain. After reaching Gorakshep, you rest for a while at a teahouse and continue towards Everest Base Camp after leaving your heavy gear. You make your way through the Khumbu Glacier. With ice formations, grey boulders, loose stones, and small craters holding pools of water, the Khumbu Glacier resembles a lunar landscape. Be careful as you may lose your footing on the scree and moraine. Soon you arrive at the Everest Base Camp. Celebrate your achievement with your guide and teammates. You are now standing directly beneath the world’s highest mountain – Mount Everest. Though you cannot see the summit, you can see part of the climbers’ route to reach Mount Everest’s summit. Explore the campsite of the Mount Everest expedition groups and Khumbu Icefall before returning to Gorakshep.
Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner included.
Wake up before sunrise and hike to Kala Patthar, the most popular viewpoint in Everest Region. Kala Patthar is the highest point of your trek, and reaching it leaves you out of breath. But you soon forget your physical discomfort as the rising sun reveals the best view of your entire trip. The panoramic views of Mount Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Changtse are incredible. You feel humbled to stand at the feet of these gigantic mountains. Take pictures and videos before walking back to Gorakshep. After breakfast, descend to Pheriche. The small settlement of Pheriche has a clinic run by the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA). The clinic is operated by an international team of medical professionals volunteering in Nepal.
Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner included.
From Pheriche, follow the trail to Namche. Stop at intervals to enjoy the views en route. It is a long descent to Namche, and you feel grateful to enjoy a long hot shower at the end of the day. You can treat yourself to baked goodies and fantastic coffee at one of the local cafes.
Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner included.
Take the downhill trail to Lukla. Try to enjoy the mountain views as much as possible on the last leg of your trek. On reaching Lukla, you head to a local teahouse where you will stay overnight. In the evening, you celebrate the completion of your trip with the local crew. There will be singing, dancing, and endless local brew rounds with the porters, guide, and assistant guides. This is an excellent time to thank the local crew for helping you realize your EBC dream. Offer them tips before retiring for the night and bidding goodbye to most of them.
Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner included.
Your successful trek concludes today. Wake up early to bid a very fond farewell to the spectacular scenery of the Khumbu before boarding your morning flight back to Kathmandu. Watching the Himalayas pass beneath your window, you’ll now be able to recognize many of the significant peaks. After the mountains’ solitude, the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu may come as something of a surprise. You’ll be transferred to your hotel to spend the rest of the day at your leisure; feel free to relax or explore the local markets. There are plenty of great restaurants in Thamel where you can enjoy dinner before returning to your hotel to spend the night.
Overnight at Hotel, Breakfast included.

The Everest Base Camp trek is probably in the bucket list of every adventurer and offers awe-inspiring views of a concentration of eight-thousanders. The end point of this trek is the first southern Base Camp for the expedition to Mt. Everest from the Nepalese side and is buzzing with activity from March to May every year, when some of the top mountaineers in the world attempt the summit . Soak in the history of this revered mountain, and immerse yourself in Buddhist tradition and local Nepalise culture when you do this unforgettable trip.
The trek starts from Lukla (2926m) which frequently experiences uncertain and harsh weather. Hence, for the trip from Lukla to Phakding, an extra day should be budgeted. As you gain elevation, hand in hand the price of the eatables and other important accessories also shoot up. We advise that you carry a few essentials like winter clothing, water disinfectant, nutri bars, nuts, and woolen clothing. Water is costly, you will be better off by filling your bottle at the streams and disinfecting them with purifying tablets, which you can buy in the market of Namche Bazaar or Kathmandu. Most trekking groups establish their camp at Gorakshep, about 3km from the EBC. Here, many trekkers show symptoms such as headache, whooping cough, nausea or maybe fever due to altitude sickness, which will need special attention before you get ready for the descent.
The Government of Nepal requires non-Nepalese hikers to obtain two permit cards for the Everest Base camp trek: (1) TIMS or Trekkers Information Management System card which can be obtained at Thamel in Kathmandu for USD 20 if you are solo, and USD 10 per person if you are in a group, and (2) entry pass to the Sagarmatha National Park which can be obtained at Monjo village, en-route from Lukla to Phakding for USD 30 plus taxes.

The round trip from Kathmandu to the EBC and back takes somewhere between 11 to 14 days. While the ascent from Lukla to EBC takes approximately eight days, the descent takes 4 to 5 days in total. You should keep a day or two in between your hike from Lukla to the Everest Base Camp for acclimatization purposes. Also, keep a day or two in hand for the unpredictableness of weather changes and flight delays at the Lukla airport.
Though the name - Everest Base Camp Trek sounds really daunting, the actual trek is not so difficult. Anyone with basic trekking skills and an optimum fitness level can do this trek. The reason is that the trek includes appreciable time for acclimatization and you can do the trek quite slowly.
The Everest Base Camp trek is usually a safe and harmless affair. It is less dangerous than climbing Everest itself. The number of deaths reported varies from 3-5 to 15-20 each year. The deaths are mostly due to adverse weather conditions, fatal extents of altitude sickness, unexpected avalanches, and even fall from great heights. That being said, this expedition is extremely safe if you are considering trekking in groups or being accompanied by porters and guides.
The Everest Base Camp Trek is moderately challenging. The highest point of this trek is Kala Patthar, situated at 5550 meters. The entire expedition might pack many challenges like unpredictable weather, poor signal, absence of basic amenities and hygiene as the altitude increases, etc. But the difficulty level of the trek in itself is not very high.
You can view some stunning Himalayan mountains from the Everest Base Camp like the Nuptse, Pumori, and Khumbutse, but not Everest! For witnessing Everest, you need to do a steep climb from the EBC to Kala Patthar- at an elevation of 5550 meters. Kala Patthar’s summit is the perfect place to view the panoramic scenery of Mt. Everest and other mighty Himalayan peaks like Makalu, Lhotse, South Col, etc.
The cost for hiking varies with different travel guides and tour operators, and agencies. You can even go for the Everest Base Camp Trek independently with just a porter and a guide. In such cases, the minimum cost of traveling to the Everest Base Camp is around USD 650 - 750 per person. This cost includes everything from transport, essential permits, accommodation, and food. The porter costs an additional USD 10 to 15 per day, whereas the guides will cost you approximately USD 30 to 35 per day. If you include the optional extras for snacks, drinks, hot showers in between, then the price might go up to USD 750 per person. Tours that include a highly qualified trek leader or a chief experience officer, or a traveling team of chefs, or those that arrange accommodation in private eco camps, or include detours for sightseeing, and/or includes a few days of accommodation in Kathmandu can cost you a much higher price.
